Hello everyone. This is Carla, coming to you from the United States of America. I am a Native Texan and professional English teacher. I have been a foreign language learner my whole life and grew up speaking English and learning Spanish, which helps me understand what really works now that I am the teacher.
PROFESSIONAL HISTORY AND GROWTH
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature and language, with minors in government and Spanish. I also hold 4-8 generalist and ESL teaching certificates.
Over seven years, I educated more than a thousand students in the traditional classroom before transitioning to online teaching and have now dedicated myself to instructing international students in the best conversational skills, mechanics, pronunciation and technique that can be offered by a native speaker to students abroad. My motivation is to combine all my previous experience as a journalist and as a teacher and focus that on and provide that expertise to you - now in my virtual classroom.
THE SPARK OF PASSION FOR THE LANGUAGE
I get a lot of joy and great pleasure when I feel something click for my student. That is the magic moment when, although you may be thousands of miles apart, you just worked together to achieve something that could have a real, lasting import in their life.
LIFE IN MY CLASSROOM
Learning another language is hard, and it’s frustrating, and it can drive students and teachers crazy, which is why it is my priority to create an environment where mistakes can be made - and learned from - without judgment or fear or stress.
I'm a writer and newspaper columnist and, really, a talker who is interested in dogs and pets and home life, including gardening, food and lifestyle. I do everything I can to experience more and learn more about topics I'm interested in, and the students, I find, bring me more than I can ever offer them in that realm.
I believe it's simple: English is the language of world commerce, science, finance and other crucial industries. If you use it well, you will be successful. It is my simple and sincere goal to offer the means to do just that to anyone who is willing to put forth the time and effort. If you feel that I can help you, I look forward to meeting you soon and seeing you as a new student in my classroom.
