My name is Felipe Cortés, I have a foreign language major (English and French). I have worked as a teacher both of English as a Second Language ESL, and Spanish as a Second Language SSL; and I have been a volunteer for over 6 years for a worldwide teaching organisation. I also have a 120-hour TESOL certificate.
As a teacher I follow a formula, my formula to make my lessons effective and attractive, 3 key points.
First, my teaching should be useful. The students will be able to use what they learn on a daily basis, things like travelling, going to the bank, going around the city, meeting new people, actually being able to have conversations and succeed in what they want and need; and to achieve all these, the second part of my formula is to focus on quality content rather than on quantity. Imake sure that they really learn and that they grasp the things that I share with them.
My third point, which I consider the most important one, is to boost their confidence. One of the most difficult parts of learning a language is to actually use it, use the vocabulary, the grammar, and all the things learned; so through well prepared questions, positive comments, letting them know that they are doing a great job, I will be able to help them to be confident and comfortable enough to use all the things the are learning.
