À propos de moi

I'm a native English and native Welsh speaker living in Britain. I have over 10 years experience teaching in many different settings, at universities, in night classes, online and privately. I specialise in teaching academic English, both written and spoken.

I work with intermediate to advanced English and Welsh learners who want to write and present to an academic level. If you’re a student, a post graduate or a university professional seeking help then book a free session. I can work with learners in either the sciences or the arts. I also offer proof reading and guidance on terminology, style, and structure.

Over the years I have helped many private students iron out recurring mistakes and bad habits, mainly through focussing on close reading and basic grammar. My ultimate goal is to try and teach students to teach themselves, in part by providing easy to use resources and guides that can be used for years to come.

At the very beginning, we will create a learning plan together, largely based on your field of study and interests so that the lessons and materials are always relevant to you. My goal is to motivate you to communicate. I want you to be passionate about speaking and writing clearly, so you need to be interested in what you're speaking and writing about. Sustaining an interest in this way is one of the keys to sustainable learning.

A class usually covers three fundamental areas: conversation, listening and reading. Conversation practice is all about warming up, practising the sounds of English and giving you the confidence to speak publicly. Listening practice is about untangling speech that’s heavily accented or laden with terminology, making sure you never miss that crucial piece of information. Reading practice focuses on what good writing looks like, how to write for your field of study, how best to communicate your ideas simply and effectively.

I encourage regular practice and always try to push my students further. No matter what level any of us are at, there is always more to learn. I offer continuous e-mail support for my regular students, for those times when you want a quick answer to a question. Click on the free trial button above and book your assessment.
