Spanish Podcast Series: 1, Radio Ambulante

This podcast series offers Spanish intermediate and advanced learners some resources for helping them practice their Spanish. In this first post, I'll be discussing Radio Ambulante.

Daniel Alarcón runs the podcast @radioambulante which tells unique stories about Latin American life and culture. Episodes range on a number of subjects that are relevant, such as the peace agreement between FARC and the government in Colombia, stories about indigenous rights and indigenous justice mechanisms, among others.

Radio Ambulante has been rightly compared to This American Life, but in reality it is even better. This American Life, run by Ira Glass, is a little too slick, with polished sound effects and a huge listener-ship of more than 2 million. By contrast, Radio Ambulante's shorter, 30 minute format podcasts to a coterie of listeners. It has an immediately more intimate feel. Try it out using your favourite podcatcher.

I am a well rounded tutor with knowledge of a wide variety of educational systems and standards. I was awarded a Double First in English literature at Cambridge and won a PhD fellowship in English and Spanish Literature at Columbia University. I have 4 years of teaching experience in a variety of academic contexts and for different educational levels from pre-secondary, GCSE, A Level, IB, BA and MA level teaching. I offer: detailed feedback on written work with a mix of encouragement and critique; experience in public speaking and debating; familiarity with the one-to-one Oxbridge tutoring system, and a genuine enthusiasm for teaching. I have experience with online tutoring and student development. When I'm not tutoring, I spend a lot of time playing cricket, listening to podcasts, or working on start up ideas. I spend a lot of time picking up useful hints and tips about the best software practises for having an organised digital life, from ProductHunt, LifeHacker, and other sources.
