Descriptive writing and storytelling

So... you can now speak English pretty well but don't have anyone to practice with. Or maybe you're getting ready to go on a date with an English speaking person and you want to impress them with your informal conversational skills. Perhaps you have just gotten back from vacationing at the beautiful spot in the picture above. You want to tell others all about it but you'd like to do so in English. I can help! English is a very descriptive language. There are THOUSANDS of ways to describe a place, a person, or a situation. It's honestly no fun describing your home town, your vacation spot, your best friend, the scary building you stumbled into, when you know the person listening will not really understand at a deep level. We want people to be able to see in their minds what we have seen; feel what we have felt. If this is a skill you'd like to develop join me in class today.
We can discuss:
*imagery
*similes and metaphors
*adjectives and adverbs
*sensory details
*analogies
*precise language
... AND MORE!

Whether you are writing or storytelling, your number one goal should be to paint a picture in the listener's/reader's mind. Let me help you do that.

Hello! I'm Rhonda and I am a veteran teacher. I am also a photographer, writer, world traveler, mom, wife, and retiree. Oh... and I'm an adrenaline junkie. I like to skydive, swim with sharks, go scuba diving, and ride roller coasters. Why would you care? Because I can promise you we will not run out of topics to talk about. I'm sure you have a reason for wanting to learn (or get better at) conversational English. I'm the one to help you do that. I have a very relaxed classroom environment and love to bring humor and laughter into teaching. However, I can also be more serious if that fits your goals and your learning style. I'm about as flexible as a person can get. (Which is why I survived 30 years in a classroom) Because I enjoy traveling, you are likely to see my classroom change locations often. My credentials? I am a graduate from Appalachian State University where I received my Bachelors degree in K- 5 Education. I taught for 30 years and have spent the last two years teaching English to children on-line. I have collaborated in writing educational material and given hundreds of professional development seminars to educators. Come check out my class. I think we would make great learning partners!
